Laying on the sofa, just coming from school, I’m finally writing in my journal again. I can recognize that I’ve had a change of heart, compared to three months, or even two months ago.

Tonight, first I had a really nice student, who I felt we could be friends. Then I had “The Newmans.” I offered to exchange addresses with both, telling them I was leaving. The one Alena said, “It is a pity for me.” The Newmans were sad and said I was their favorite teacher, once I explained that they were my favorite students.

After Class

We established the fact that it was “after class” and thus I could cheat and use the dictionary to look up “favorite.” They are great and we were all sorry. I totally walked them through the video lesson earlier. The other student Alina spent one month or five weeks in Peru last year. Awesome. I need to get around more.

Well, tonight I had tears in my eyes. I knew a long time ago that I would be sad saying goodbye to them. At least I was the only one at school, besides the nice little cleaning lady in her blue overalls and yellow shirt. Walking home, I was sentimental. The (Košice main square) fountain was on, with music playing loudly.

A Change of Heart

As I walked by St. Albety’s a gipsy girl walked along next to me, begging, as I customarily shooed her away. Then I heard a sweet, “Proseem.” As I walked away and she left heading towards her next prey. I turned around, walked over to her and put a 10 SK coin in her hand. She looked up and, “Daquiem.” Susse. (Sweet.)

Today I went to another pizza 🍕joint with Robin and Arya for lunch. Bibiana is on vacation this week with Chris and Damon, and it’s very quiet. Everyone is glad they are gone.

Boyfriend Called

Boyfriend just called and is quite frustrated, he ragged on me for a few minutes about where to fly into, etc. He said he’s had five trips planned, but I only know of the ticket to Rome, that he currently has booked. If need be, I may have to travel to meet him there, 15 hours on the overnight train. Aye yay yai. Perhaps he is having a change of heart too. I should find out tomorrow what he decides today.

It has been a daily ordeal for the past two months on when and if, and now where, he is coming. It is never easy with us.

In the meantime, I am stressed that he has waited till the last minute; which of course will be my fault, because I kept changing the location. Also I feel a bit anxious about Luise’s plans, as she would like to have me there ASAP, and the movers are there on June or July 5 already. Before, originally I told her I’d come the first part of July, but now that’s too late. This time I said after Paris on June 12th, but I have to explain that Daves visit was already planned tentatively in April.

Then Dagi is upset that I won’t be spending much time with them. She also made some plans for me at the end of June, unbeknownst to me till Sunday.

The Packing Thing

I also am going through “the packing thing” and have two boxes 📦 to send home. I was extremely dismayed today, to find – typical Slovakia– that the gift store for Todd and Dagi’s presents is closed until May 17th. How convenient. One day too, last week, the photo shop was closed out of the blue. And last Sunday, the local Potraviny was closed on May Day, Saturday May 1st.
