Saturday in Tokyo
Today was our “Bike Tour” Day which was six hours. “Oh it won’t be riding very much.,” Pauline had told me. Well we rode 19 + kilometers.
Anyway there were two Aussies with us. The guy was kind of a pansy and the gal beefy. So they were wonky on the bikes in front of me. I got in front of them for my own safety reasons and I was on the tour leader like glue, “didn’t miss a beat,” as Pauline said. That worked for me.And it had been 22 years since I rode a bike basically. I left my last bike in Scottsdale.
So we saw a lot of Tokyo and the weather was perfect for a ride – cool, sunny and breezy clouds. We had a great experience. See pics. And before the bike ride we discovered an Espresso spritzer with lemon Café drink on ice! Delish.
Our tour guide Masa was awesome, but when we asked him questions about crime or murder in Japan he said, “Hmm, I don’t know that one.” Pauline had mentioned a recent Netflix about Tokyo.
What I enjoyed about the bike ride is we rode along the river, through parks and on Tokyo streets- all over! It was a great way to see a lot of the city. I felt pretty safe too, 7 or 8 on 1 – 10, or even 8-9 safe even though we rode on streets, people are respectful and safe drivers.
Upon arrival at our Hotel Smile after walking two kilometers back, we rated up, and headed back out to find a dinner place suitable to our vibe.
Find we did. Venturing out into our Tokyo neighborhood we vibed into a local skewer spot. All wood with sliding door entryway it was casual and local. The few diners who came and went were Japanese and the menu all in Japanese with pictures, but our server spoke English well enough to get by.
Turns out skewers were the specialty. We ordered and I loved incidentally “Quail” skewers, which turned out to be tiny Quail Egg wrapped in bacon. 🥓 So good!! I ordered more. And we had some others that were a kind of vegetable, she had chicken… I tried the Lemon 🍋 Sour that everyone here drinks— even on the way to work in the train in cans – and she had one too.
