It made me realize that I want to try more Roussanne. This wine inspired me to get out my wine book and learn about different types of wine. I knew I have like Viognier for a while like since I discovered it at a very memorable Berlitz dinner in New York City via John Bennett in 2002. In the wine book, also vintage 2000 ish I read that the three grapes 🍇 viognier Roussanne and Marsanne are often grown in the same area and used in blends together. So there ya have it!

Like this wine!

I proceeded to take on that venture and order a glass of Roussanne at Oak Creek Winery in Temecula. It was not as good, it was very lightly florally, faintly citrus and hmmm not very interesting. I would not order again and I did not have a second glass.

As for this Pontificis Roussanne, I will buy again and more than just one bottle. Maybe three. I’d say for the price $21.00 of two 5 cents wines at BevMo this is a more enjoyable bottle.

What does it tastes like you ask. Some variety of vanilla, light oak, apple 🍏 blossom and scent of citrus 🍊 it’s like a refreshing Chardonnay without all the hoopla.

I’d say this wine is a 5 out of 10. In my experience, for its price, this is a wine to buy again. I said that didn’t I. Well that’s what inspired me to write these tasting notes. So I know which wines I like enough to repeat. And to have a record of the ones I don’t.

Price at Trader Joe’s $6.99 in around 2018.

From the bottle:

Produced in the Languedoc-Roussillon, between sea and mountain, from three local grape varieties Viognier (55%), Roussanne (35%) and Marsanne (10%), Pontificis is an extremely delicate and elegant wine. With aromas of apricots, white flowers and dried fruits, this wine has a long finish and is a beautiful representation of the best of the South of France.
