Cheri Full Gepackt

Thursday when I arrived back in Munich at Michael’s, he was at home sick. (There was a lot of flu and respiratory sickness going around—which had me scared about getting sick in a third-world country.)

Back in Munich

So I went back into town to Odeonsplatz and walked about in the snow, looking at the festive Fäschings lanterns hanging over the pedestrian zone. A lot of people were walking about in the snow with umbrellas—which I was glad I had.

Back home Michael made vegetables mit Käse (with cheese); we had a glass of wine; and I packed, had tea, and went early to bed.

Leaving for Vienna

Friday morning there was still deep snow. Luise called to confirm pick up time and place that Fritz would meet me tomorrow in Vienna, and we’d taxi it, since they couldn’t get the car out of the snow and it was still snowing 🌨.

We had a nice breakfast and I had my stuff ready in time. Not to mention that I left about 1/3 to 1/2 of what I brought from San Diego with Michael (much to his dismay) in the large black bag. I don’t see how I packed that much stuff on the way here. I really must have “super packed.”

This is an excerpt from my Kosice Journal, documenting my exodus from a (relatively happy) bustling life in beautiful San Diego, to (voluntarily) take a post teaching English in the newly independent eastern capital of Slovakia during a very cold winter 1999.
