Well today is Smützige Donnerstag, (Dirty Thursday). It’s the big Fäschings Day in the area around Singen where Dagi lives. We woke up to a tin pail drum marching through the neighborhood. Then from the large picture windows, watched kids dressed up walking dürch den Schnee ( through the snow). The last couple nights on T.V. we’ve also seen the grown-up Fäschings shows with grown adults dressed up in funny, tacky costumes parading about, and watching late-night comedians and dance shows, skits of Wähnsinn (craziness)!

Dagi and I both really enjoyed our time together. We reminisced, even laughed about the “train trip” to Colorado, and planned, of course, for the future. This year is our ten-year anniversary since we met. Es war ‘89 (it was 1989) when we hung out in San Diego together from January to September. Then in December ’89 I went to Europe and studied in Salzburg. That’s when we spent New Years 1990 together at die Hütte (the Alpine mountain hut).

Today when Dagmar drove me to the Bahnhof (train station), she reminded me that I can always retreat to her house for as long as I like to—and that they are always there for me, if I need to get out of Kosice. That’s a good thing to know.

Right now I’m having a little bit of stress about getting there finally. I’ll be glad once I get the train ride from Vienna to Budapest to Kosice under control. And also once I hear back from Bibiana, as to how I shall proceed once I get to the train station in Kosice. I think they should meet me and pick me up. That’s the least they could do, since I’m coming all the way from sunny ☀️ 70 degree San Diego! Maybe I’ll call Bibiana today in the evening from Munich, so I can put my chatterbox mind to sleep and rest reassured.

Yes, the time with Dagmar, Harald, and also Fabienne was really special. Die Fabi ist eine schöne Maüsel (Fabi is a cute little mouse – it doesn’t translate that well). She’s really sweet and of course her parents are really proud. Fabi is now the boss of the family. “Sofa setzen.” “Mahlen.” La La Machen. Hipf Hopf Hopf. Trip Toe. “Messer farlich.” Kerzen heiss. Mama da. Papa da. Liegen. Aus. Aus machen. Fertig. Oben. Ünten. Buch lesen. Spielen. Angeln. Hilf mir. Auto setzen. … usw…
