Hubby and I have been on a strange trend. Strange for us, in that we typically do not eat at fast food places. This week, however we have had McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s’. To top that off.
We ate at the newly opened Cains in Rancho San Diego. And a couple weeks before that, we stopped at hubby’s favorite since it opened in 1984, the famous Canada Steak Burger, which is one of my favorite San Diego restaurants.
So, maybe I need to take my words back. That seems like a lot of fast food eating! Here is how they ranked for us, specifically me.
How it started was that we had seen a commercial for the Baconater. And we thought that it was at Burger King, so we went there. But turns out it was a Wendy’s. So we went there the next day.
Wendy’s – I would definitely go back and order the same thing! The fries were really good. You could see potato skin on some of the fries and they tasted like real potatoes, not mealy at all. They were salted just the right amount, and were even tasty before we reheated them in the air fryer. I ordered a new special, the Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich and it was very good. My first bite produced a mouth full of fire, but it was delicious. Chicken was crunchy coated, and the sauce was yummy, the ghost pepper pieces added a pop and an extra crunch. The lettuce wasn’t too soggy and there was even a thin tomato slice in there. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the Baconator, which was why we started this strange trend. He was satisfied and ate the whole thing and would definitely order the same thing again. This was the best out of all the four – Cains, McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s’. Oh, and the order taker asked, “Would you like a cookie with that?” Me, “Yes!”
McDonald’s – The fries were good, as always. They tasted a little less crunchy than I had remembered. We ordered the double cheeseburger combo and each ate a cheeseburger, and shared the fries. I guess the cheeseburger is like it always has been, so it was consistent.
Burger King – I would not go back and definitely wouldn’t order the same thing again. It was the worst of all the places. Fries were starchy and unsalted. I reheated them in the air fryer and that did not even help. They were still pretty bland. I had ordered the new Italian Crunchy Chicken Sandwich. Not a bite with a crunch. The brioche bun was mushed into the thin layers of un-flavorful tomato sauce, a thin serving of an indistinguishable white cheese melted. I ate it, but was disappointed as I thought it would be crunchy and like a parmesan chicken dish. My husband ordered a Croissant bun bacon burger and didn’t even finish it all, as it just wasn’t that good. He did not even finish his fries.
Cains – I ordered the chicken sticks and we shared some fries. I would not go back for the chicken sticks, they had a crunchy topping on them and were pretty hot and sort of juicy, somewhat tender. Nothing great, but not bad. The fries were mealy and were not hot, and reminded us of how good the fries are at Canada Steak Burger.
Canada Steak Burger – Which led my husband to crave a visit to Canada Steak Burger the following week. Their french fries are great and hard to resist. They are always hot, and crunchy outside, with a heavy hand of a seasoning which tastes like it has onion salt in it. Yum!
I thought I was done with this post, but driving home today I saw a billboard for Jersey Mikes and I recollected that we’d gone there in the past couple weeks as well. Hubby had seen one of the guys at the smoke shop having a Jersey Mikes Super Sun and wanted to try it. It was actually a Philly Steak Sandwich. So we each got a variation on that Philly sub. It had sautéed green peppers and onions, some kind of white American cheese and meat, and a lot of white bun. We weren’t impressed. At all, and don’t need to go back.
Where we will go back to, next week in fact, three times is Tadian Café. Oh My Gosh. They make or rather
I passed by Carls Junior, where we do go from time to time. My husband likes one of their burgers and we both think their fries are good. And we like their bacon hamburgers.
Then I remembered that hubby had sent me to Arby’s seeking a Brownie Cookie we had seen advertised on television. Lo and behold they didn’t have it either. But they did offer me their chocolate chip cookies and or a Reese’s peanut butter chip cookie, of which I took both. They heated the cookies up for me and my goodness! By the time I got to my next stop at Sprouts, the first cookie was devoured.
Things started during my birthday month when hubby brought me home a mini chocolate birthday cake from Carls Junior. Highly recommend that. With cream cheese frosting and cocoa nibs.De-lish! Needless to say we’ve been back several times, just for that chocolate cake. Yes, they offer chocolate chip cookies too, and yes I’ve tried one, but not nearly as good as the chocolate cream cheese frosting cake.
