So (Berlitz teacher) Arya the pessimist was right. We didn’t get paid. Or he (Peter) didn’t have our money. No pay. This is the first time it has happened however at the school (Berlitz). Apparently from December to now, Peter has been paying (the teachers) out of his own pocket.
A Portion of our Pay
Tuesday we all waited and Wednesday we got a portion of our pay, equally divided as Bibiana took us each individually into the office. Another larger portion (of our pay) came Thursday. I also invited (teacher) Mark to see my flat, as he wants to have it as soon as I leave. Perfect!
On Friday I met Ms. Langelova again to pay the rest of the rent. She had been here Tuesday to get the first half- and brought her second brother. They fixed up the the cable TV 📺 so now I get German TV Vox and Pro Sieben. And British Sky News, Euro News, BBC News, and I had a really cool Deutsche Welle station that broadcast positive news alternating zwische Duetsch and English every hour. After two days however, it suddenly disappeared, much to my dismay.
Finally I am writing ✍️ again. I have been working on manuscripts recently which has been the extent of my writing. Besides daily EM to boyfriend and mom, sometimes Ang.
School (Berlitz) has been great. I volunteered to take Vlako, the bad boy, for the time I’m here. Nobody wants him. Actually I had him yesterday, with Martin, another bad boy, which was a frightful combo. Reminds me why I won’t teach K-12.
Prison Museum
A couple weekends ago I met Chris and Damon at noon at the British Council. It was a windy rainy day. Grey and cold. We went to the Prison Museum, had to wander around till 13:00 when the gatekeeper was due to resurface. Torture chambers were interesting, as were the death notices and faulty translations.
Afterwards we went to La Bomba, had Glüh Wine (mulled spice wine) and Palatshinken (crepes). Then on to the Sunday Tesco excursion where we ran into Tony and Melissa, US employees from Ohio of US Steel here on a three year contract. Wandered around CD section, toys, and on to grocery buying. Melissa and I speaking English convo over the fruit weigh station commanded a lot of stares.
