Hubby was in a dentist appointment and instead of going downstairs to my usual cafe I decided to walk around Hillcrest a little. Well that’s when I literally stumbled upon Figaro.
First I saw the most beautiful gelatos and decorated so elegantly like I had only seen in Bergamo Italy . I didn’t get a picture of them because I was so caught up in the moment and the dessert case was beckoning me over.
What exciting desserts! Such a colorful and beautiful dessert selection. I’m drawn to elegance and color. This pastry case has both!
Now let me tell you, I had recently- or lately experienced a few of these desserts at my favorite brunch hotel – which you know is The Westgate if you know me. It was the Chocolate Bomb and the one that looks like a Swiss Cheese. The chocolate bomb is rich, creamy and nothing subtle about it. It screams chocolate and I love it. Decadence.
It was so tempting – when I walked in I wanted the gelato, in as many flavors as possible. Then I saw the pastry case. So it was tough. I ended up ordering a fresh slice of chocolate cake with a side scoop of hazelnut gelato. Ah-mazing combination. It’s my featured photo. Oh with a house coffee.
I ended up taking part of it home. And made the executive decision to order a savory crepe for hubby and me to share for lunch. (Hubby loves crepes.)
Well, let me tell you. Can the (cute) owner of Figaro make Crêpes. Yes he can. I was surprised to see him using the proper tools and technique to produce a gorgeous and delicious, picturesque crepe. Just like the countless Crêpes I have had in France both in Provence and in Paris. I’ve had my fair share of excellent Crêpes and this was right up there. Plus, I always love watching and talking to the Crêpe maker as they make the crepes. (Maybe that’s not good protocol, but I do it.)
Anyway, success all the way around. I think they were playing good music too. In fact it was such good vibes, I’m planning to hold my upcoming birthday celebration at Figaro Desserts Café. (And I’m going to bring Dagi there too, when she comes to visit in October. We’ve consumed many sweet and savory crepes together in Provence.)
But please, don’t take my word for it. See for yourself. They have a location in North Park too.

P.S. Added bonus for coolness… it sits in the former 1990’s Doc Martin shop location.
